In what has become a tradition of goodwill, the hearts of Pinellas County employees have once again shown their commitment to spreading holiday cheer as they proudly presented 70 bikes and helmets to children from less fortunate families. The 39th Annual Employee Bike Drive, a substantial effort spearheaded by the collective might of county workers, culminated in the ceremonial rollout at the Courthouse yesterday, making it more than just a seasonal gesture, but a beacon of hope for those in need.
The initiative, which saw employees contributing over $11,800 for the cause, was met with a sense of pride and honor. Karen Yatchum, Human Services Director, told Pinellas County News, "It is truly an honor to be part of such an amazing organization where employees work together to make the magic of the holidays come to life for our residents!" The recipients of these two-wheeled treasures were hand-picked by the County's Human Services department, ensuring the gifts would make a significant impact on the holiday experiences of these families.
The bikes, before finding their new homes, were displayed in the County Courthouse lobby, serving as a visual reminder of the season's spirit of giving and community. County Administrator Barry A. Burton weighed in on the employees' generosity, stating, "We are very proud of this generosity."
Indeed, the reach of the bike drive extends far beyond the gleam of fresh paint and the spin of new wheels. Commission Chair Brian Scott expressed to Pinellas County News, "We have to sometimes pause and remember what the holiday season is truly about — looking out for one another."
