Pittsburgh is gearing up to throw a celebratory bash for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, who have managed to clinch their first USL Championship title. Stealing the show with their Eastern Conference Final win and a nail-biting shootout against Tulsa, this victory stands as a historic first for the team. According to an announcement from the City of Pittsburgh, the festivities will unfold on December 4th, downtown on Grant Street, complete with a rally, speeches, and a meet-and-greet with the Hounds.
Not only will Mayor Ed Gainey be present, but so will Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, Riverhounds President Jeff Garner, team members, the coaching squad, city council members, and other city officials. It's a chance for the community to openly celebrate and to actually get to hold and snap a picture with both the USL Championship and Eastern Conference trophies. But, they will have to navigate some detours around Grant Street to get there, as it'll be temporarily closed to make room for the event.
Traffic adjustments are going to be necessary, with the street shutting down between Fourth Avenue and Forbes Avenue, starting at 10:30 AM on the day of the celebration and staying closed until 2 PM. Detours will be set up around Grant Street at Boulevard of the Allies and Third Avenue, aiming to keep congestion at bay on Fourth Avenue, which will remain throw open for cross traffic. Authorities are putting out the heads up: plan your travel accordingly and don't let the expected uptick in foot traffic catch you by surprise.
