The Placer County District Attorney's Office has expressed concern with the Department of State Hospitals over scheduling a meeting on December 16 at 1:30 p.m. regarding the potential placement of Sexually Violent Predators William Stephenson and Gregory Ding, which conflicts with the Board of Supervisors meetings. Local officials worry this overlap may limit county representation and reduce community involvement in the discussions, as mentioned by the Placer County District Attorney's Office.
The district attorney's office criticized Department of State Hospitals for the scheduling clash and emphasized the importance of transparency in decisions affecting community safety. In a social media post, they stated, "Our community should not be torn between these two important events," as reported by the Placer County District Attorney's Office.
According to the Placer County District Attorney's Office on their Facebook page, the state did not share information ahead of the December 16 meeting on SVP placement, which could affect county officials’ preparation. The public can attend in person at the CDRA building in Auburn, join via Zoom, or watch the livestream on Facebook. Updates on the meeting and future SVP proceedings are available on the county’s case portal. Representatives from the Department of State Hospitals and Liberty Healthcare will also be present virtually to answer questions.
