The Town of Plymouth kicked off the holiday season with its "Light up the Season" event, transforming the Town Hall Green and the Spire Center into a festive space for the community on December 5. According to the Plymouth Police Department's Facebook post, numerous streets were subject to traffic and parking restrictions to accommodate the celebration.
Residents and visitors were advised to plan their travel accordingly, as parking restrictions were enforced starting at noon on the day of the event. Parking was prohibited around Town Hall Green on Russell Street and S. Russell Street. No parking zones were also designated on Court Street, from North Street to Howland Street, as well as on Howland Street near Court Street and on North Street, as posted. For those requiring accessible parking solutions, handicap parking was made available in the main lot of Town Hall.
The modifications to local traffic patterns were significant. Russell Street was closed from Court Street to Sever Street starting at 4 PM, and South Russell Street was blocked off from the Lower Parking Garage to Court Street. Additional closures were implemented at 5PM, including Court Street from North Street to Howland Street, with traffic detoured at those locations. Specific streets like Clyfton, Vernon, and Brewster were restricted to through traffic, allowing only resident access.
Important traffic changes also affected key intersections such as Memorial Drive at Court Street and Chilton Street at Court Street, permitting northbound right turns only. These alterations were essential in creating a safe and pedestrian-friendly environment for the event attendees. The town expected increased pedestrian traffic in the vicinity and urged drivers to exercise additional caution around the festive area.
The "Light up the Season" event is part of a broader effort by Plymouth to foster community engagement and celebrate the holiday spirit. The annual occasion not only illuminates the town with decorations and lights but also serves as a gathering point for residents and visitors to enjoy the magic of the season together.
