This morning, the National Weather Service in Portland cautioned residents across the Portland and Vancouver Metro area, as well as the Central and Southern Willamette Valley and Lower Columbia and Cowlitz River Valleys, of low visibility conditions that could impact morning commutes. The Dense Fog Advisory was in effect until 10 AM PST, with visibility dropping to one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.
Motorists were urged to "If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," to ensure added safety during hazardous driving conditions. The dense fog set a somber tone over the region, cloaking the landscapes and cityscapes in a blanket of mist, challenging the very act of seeing and navigating the streets, as mentioned in the Dense Fog Advisory.
Alongside the advisory, the weather service also provided a detailed forecast, which included partly sunny skies with highs creeping up to near 45 degrees today, followed by areas of frost developing tonight as temperatures are expected to drop to around 36 degrees. Commuters and residents are to expect more areas of frost come Monday morning before the sun breaks through to partly sunny skies and a high near 47 degrees.
The forecast anticipates fluctuating conditions, with widespread frost on Wednesday morning, then leading up to a chance of rain on New Year's Day. Rain becomes more likely by the end of the week, with showers into the weekend. Residents are advised to stay updated on the weather changes, potentially to alter outdoor plans accordingly.
