Portland residents can expect a damp and foggy week ahead. Showers are likely today, especially before noon, with a high temperature hovering near 59 degrees and winds coming in from the south southwest direction at 6 to 10 mph. Gusts may reach up to 20 mph, and the chance of precipitation stands at 70 percent with minimal new rainfall amounts expected, according to the latest report from the National Weather Service.

Tonight, the chance of showers drops off sharply to 10 percent before 8 pm, and patchy fog is forecast to develop early in the evening and linger into the night. The temperature will drop to around 50 degrees, and the winds will calm down. Visibility might be reduced due to fog, which is also expected to be a consistent pattern over the next few days, particularly in the mornings.

The NWS report indicates that Friday will also see patchy fog, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 57 degrees under calm wind conditions. Similar conditions will continue into Friday night, with a low around 46 degrees.

Heading into the weekend, Saturday morning will bring more patchy fog, clearing up by midday to allow for partly sunny skies and a high of about 55 degrees. The calm before the storm, literally, rain is likely to return Saturday night with a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Looking further ahead into early next week, Portlanders should brace for more rain with cloudy conditions, with highs ranging from the low 50s to the upper 50s, and lows staying mostly in the mid to upper 40s.
