
The National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon, has issued a weather update for the region, anticipating a damp end to December. According to the NWS, showers are expected before 2pm today, with the snow level dropping from 3200 feet to 2200 feet by the afternoon. Temperatures are set to hover near 47 degrees Fahrenheit, accompanied by a south wind shifting west as the day progresses. "Chance of precipitation is 90%," reports the National Weather Service, with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible.
Tonight, Portlanders should prepare to quickly see continued showers, mainly before 3am, while the snow level is expected to steadily stand at 1600 feet. The temperature during the night will remain steady around 40 degrees with winds from the west southwest at 6 to 8 mph. As residents look ahead to the weekend, the NWS forecasts a 40 percent chance of showers tomorrow morning, with a snow level of 1400 feet, and a minor chance to possibly catch a glimpse of the sun on Sunday.
Moving into the next week, the chill seems to persist. Monday promises areas of frost before 10 am and partly sunny skies by afternoon, with highs approaching 46 degrees. Looking towards the New Year’s celebration, Portlanders should gear up for cloudy skies and possible rain on New Year's Day, with the NWS predicting "Rain likely" and a high near 49 degrees.
Portland's frosty nights are set to continue into early next week. "Areas of frost after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 34," states the NWS forecast for Sunday night. With mostly cloudy to partly sunny days, temperatures will to struggle to sharply climb much above the mid-40s. As for precipitation, a slight chance of rain is on the horizon for the middle of the week, possibly bringing wet conditions on New Year's Day for those planning to ring in 2026 with outdoor festivities.
