R&B singer Trey Songz, whose legal name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, is facing legal charges related to two separate incidents in New York City. According to The New York Post, Neverson was charged with assault after allegedly striking a nightclub employee in Manhattan on December 4. He is also facing criminal mischief charges stemming from a separate incident at Mira, a Mediterranean and hookah lounge, where he is accused of causing property damage.
Prosecutors in Manhattan stated that Neverson became upset after being told that Dramma Nightclub was closing for the night, which they say led to the altercation. In a separate incident at Mira earlier that morning, authorities allege that Neverson damaged property valued at approximately $1,500, including hookahs, DJ equipment, and sofas, as outlined in a criminal complaint. Neverson denied the allegations upon his release on his own recognizance and left the courthouse without further comment.
The CBS News report lists six charges against the singer, arising from both the nightclub incident and his actions at Mira Lounge. Neverson's legal counsel was not immediately available for comment, though an earlier statement from his attorney said that the singer was provoked, stating that public figures are often targeted for headlines or financial gain. Neverson is scheduled to appear in court again on February 18.
The artist, a three-time Grammy nominee and recipient of BET and Soul Train awards, has a history of legal issues. Previous charges include aggravated assault, and he has faced allegations of rape and sexual assault. Neverson's attorney, Mitchell Schuster, stated to The New York Post that his client was targeted and that his security intervened to protect him and contain the situation. Neverson's legal team says he is fully cooperating with ongoing investigations and is confident that the full context of the incidents will be clarified in court.
