
A tragic event unfolded at the Cumming Christmas parade in Forsyth County, Georgia, when Robert Muth, a retired police officer and an active community volunteer, was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that Muth, who provided his services as a volunteer after his retirement, was hit last Saturday night and succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning.
According to CBS News Atlanta, Muth had served in law enforcement for over two decades, including 21 years as a sergeant with the Boca Raton, Florida, Police Department before moving to Forsyth County, where he continued his commitment to public service, first by providing security as a Bluecoat officer and later as a dedicated volunteer across several divisions within the Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred at approximately 7:19 p.m. near the intersection of Castleberry Road and Buford Dam Road, where fellow volunteers and deputies began life-saving measures until emergency personnel arrived despite the assailant who stayed on the scene, now cooperating with the investigation, the driver's charges remain uncertain as the probe moves forward.
The cause of the crash that led to Muth's death has not yet been released, and the Cumming Police Department, which is leading the investigation, has not disclosed whether charges will be filed. Muth's service is remembered by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, who described him as "one of our own," and praised him for his years of service and dedication to community engagement, as echoed in a statement obtained by CBS News Atlanta, "His dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve wherever needed exemplified the very best of our volunteer program."
