As rain continues in Sacramento, the city is offering shelter through its weather-respite operations. From today through to Dec. 26, residents can access the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC) and the North 5th Street Navigation Center, which are accepting walk-ups, according to the City of Sacramento.

The Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC) at 3615 Auburn Blvd. will open today at 1 p.m. and remain available until Dec. 26 at 8 a.m. It can accommodate up to 50 individuals, provides storage for personal belongings, and allows pets. The North 5th Street Navigation Center will operate daily from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with a capacity of 20 adults and no pet accommodations. In addition, libraries and community centers will be open during regular business hours for those seeking shelter. Residents can call 211 for assistance in accessing these warm, dry spaces.

The County of Sacramento is also providing shelter at the Warren E. Thorton Youth Center, 4000 Branch Center Rd., which began its weather-respite operations yesterday, and will continue through Jan. 5, 2026. Transportation to the centers is available for free through Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT); riders can show the SacRT flyer for access.

The City of Sacramento monitors National Weather Service forecasts to track any changes that might require extending weather-respite operations. Officials ensure that each site has adequate capacity and are prepared to open additional locations if needed.
