Earlier this month, a routine traffic stop in Sacramento's 4000 block of Norwood Avenue led to a significant find for the city's police force. The Sacramento Police Department announced on social media that their North Problem-Oriented Policing (NPOP) officers, upon discovering one of the car's occupants on probation, conducted a vehicle search that yielded a loaded handgun, fentanyl, methamphetamines, and Xanax pills.
During the December 4 operation, 34-year-old Jordan Doig of Galt was arrested on charges related to firearm possession and narcotics sales while 40-year-old Angel Garcia of Sacramento was detained for charges related to narcotics sales, this revelation is just the latest in what the department regards as stellar police work by their officers, the commitment is clear in the recent proactive steps taken in addressing crime in the community.
According to the Sacramento Police Department's post, the bust reflects the department's continued efforts in proactive policing—"Another example of the great proactive policing that our officers do all day every day, fantastic job!" read the statement on social media, encapsulating the department's drive to prevent crime before it occurs.
The arrests come amid heightened concerns over the spread of illegal firearms and the opioid crisis, particularly the proliferation of fentanyl, a potent opioid which has been linked to a surge in overdose deaths across the nation; in Sacramento, the police force remains vigilant, a crime-fighting stance that is more a mandate than a moment, a persistent struggle against the undercurrents of an illicit market that spare no community their ruinous touch, as many local families can attest from painful, personal experience.
