Salisbury residents are being invited to voice their opinions on a significant shift in their city's public transit offerings. In line with a new microtransit initiative, starting January 2026, the city's current transit Route 3, also known as the Blue Route, will transition to an on-demand microtransit service. This change is part of the larger Mobility for Everyone, Everywhere in North Carolina (MEE NC) initiative, funded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Integrated Mobility Division. According to an announcement posted on the City of Salisbury website, this ride-share-like service will allow passengers to request same day pick-ups within the set route area.

The planned microtransit project is set to operate weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., aiming to offer more flexibility for residents in meeting their essential travel needs. Whether it's a trip to the grocery store, a doctor's appointment, or another vital destination, Salisbury Transit hopes this service will provide a more convenient experience. Under the pilot project, riders will get the opportunity to adapt to this new transit model, which departs from the traditional fixed-route bus system that has been long in use.

Public comments on this impending transition to microtransit are being sought from November 25th to December 29th, 2025. The city has opened multiple channels for residents to submit their feedback, including via phone at (704) 638-4460, email through [email protected], and by mail to Salisbury Transit, PO Box 479, Salisbury, NC 28145-0479. Specific details on how to engage with the service and share opinions can be found on the City of Salisbury's website.
