A 7-year-old girl from San Antonio has been missing since March, and Bexar County deputies now have a warrant out for her mother on a custody-related charge. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help track down both the child and her mom.
Mia Moore, about 4'3"–4'6" tall and weighing roughly 50 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in March, and her father has been unable to locate her or her mother, Elena Gonzales. Mia was withdrawn from school in August and later enrolled in an online program. An arrest warrant for interference with child custody was issued Tuesday for Gonzales, News 4 San Antonio reports.
What The Charge Means
Under Texas law, interference with child custody occurs when someone takes or keeps a child in violation of a court order. Texas Penal Code Section 25.03 classifies it as a state jail felony, with penalties and defenses depending on case specifics. The full statute is available from the Texas Legislature at Section 25.03.
Countywide Strain And New Resources
Bexar County has faced a heavy load of missing-persons cases, prompting officials to add staff to a dedicated unit to reduce the backlog and speed new investigations. The San Antonio Report noted that one detective once handled hundreds of cases. Deputies are urging the public to provide tips on Mia and Elena promptly.
