The Semmes Branch Library at 15060 Judson Road will celebrate its 20th anniversary this December. The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) has organized a family-friendly event on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m., beginning with a ceremony reflecting on the library’s two decades of service to the community.

According to the City of San Antonio press release, the free festivities will include a goat petting zoo, balloon art, yard games, cement mold painting, and outdoor musical instruments. Recent renovations added patio space, seating, and two outdoor chess tables, making the library an ideal venue for the event.

Children can enjoy crafts such as bird feeders and festive paper streamers, and the library mascot, Smarty, will be on hand to engage attendees. The Semmes Branch Library, named after Julia Yates Semmes, who advocated for resources for people with vision loss, opened on November 5, 2005.

In 2000, the Semmes Foundation donated $1 million to the San Antonio Public Library Foundation to create a special collection for the visually impaired, including books and adaptive equipment.
