On October 1, a family's world turned dark in Spring Valley as sexual abuse allegations were brought to the attention of the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The charges involved an underage victim, and the accused turned out to be a family member, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. Swiftly, detectives from the Sheriff's Child Abuse Unit (CAU) carried out the grim task of investigating these allegations.
Bringing the investigation to its conclusion, the CAU established probable cause against Kevin G. Conover, 49, for engaging in unlawful sexual activities with a minor. Detailed in the Sheriff's report as an oral copulation violation of Penal Code 269(a)(4) and multiple counts of lewd acts with a child under the penal codes 288(a) and 288.5—in a reality where a teacher should shield the innocent, Conover was instead booked for acts designed to corrupt them.
Conover, identified as a teacher at Christian Unified High School, was arrested yesterday. The apprehension occurred without spectacle, as law enforcement took him into custody outside his place of employment at 2100 Greenfield Drive in El Cajon. The arrest, signaling a closure to a chapter that undoubtedly brought pain to those involved, was made public through a news release issued by the Sheriff's Office.
As justice now winds its way through the legal system, the officials urge the community to come forward with any relevant information. By calling the Sheriff's Child Abuse Unit at (858) 285-6112, which can also be reached after hours at (858) 868-3200, witnesses or those with knowledge about the incident can step into the light. And for those who choose to walk the path of anonymity, San Diego County Crime Stoppers remains available, accepting tips at (888) 580-8477.
