San Franciscans looking to start the new year with an eco-conscious resolution can participate in the City of St. Augustine's community recycling event. Set for January 7, 2026, this initiative is a collaboration between the local government and St. Johns County Utilities, designed to help residents dispose of certain recyclables responsibly. The main drop-off location for the event will be at 25 W. Castillo Drive (Francis Field) from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, as announced on the city's social media post.
The event will accept a range of items, including used cooking oil, outdated or broken electronics like cell phones, tablets, and PCs, as well as digital cameras and small household electronics. For those specifically looking to get rid of used cooking oil, an additional drop-off spot is available at 840 West 16th Street, behind the SJC Parks & Recreation Office on Anastasia Island. However, it should be noted that televisions, hazardous waste, motor oil, and shredding paper will not be accepted at these locations.
In line with the city's waste management practices, holiday trees will also be picked up curbside beginning on the same date. Residents are encouraged to strip their trees of all decorations before placing them outside to be collected along with regular yard waste. The social media announcement also serves as a reminder that holiday light strands, while accepted at the recycling event, should not be placed in household recycling bins.
Questions and inquiries regarding the event can be addressed to Solid Waste at 904.825.1049 or via email at [email protected]. Residents eager to participate or seeking more details about the accepted materials can find the event flyer and additional information on the City of St. Augustine's official website at CityStAug.com/recyclingevents.
