The National Weather Service in Seattle has been tracking the impact of a persistent atmospheric river, which has led to a series of weather advisories across the region. The relentless downpour has escalated concerns of severe flooding, landslides, and extensive damage to areas across western Washington. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday afternoon due to the heavy rainfall expected to persist throughout the week.

In a statement obtained by the National Weather Service Seattle, forecasters warned that "additional heavy rainfall of 1 to 4 inches across the lowlands and 4 to 10 inches over the Olympics and Cascades is expected through late Wednesday." Causing highway closures and extensive delays, a mudslide was reported along I-90 on Monday evening near North Bend. Forecasters are expressing that more landslides are possible due to the increased antecedent soil moisture levels.

The National Weather Service also issued a Wind Advisory, in effect until 10 PM PST this evening. Residents have been advised to secure outdoor objects, with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph expected. While being blown down, tree limbs could cause additional power outages.

As for the rivers, the current conditions have triggered several Flood Warnings. The Snoqualmie River near Snoqualmie Falls and the Tolt River above Carnation are projecting major flooding. The Cedar River near Landsburg, said to be reaching major flooding, will cause severe impacts from Landsburg downstream through Maplewood. All along the river, including headwaters, tributaries, and other streams within and near the Cedar River Basin, flooding will occur as forecasted.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay informed through official channels and to take necessary precautions. Flood-prone areas should be prepared to act immediately should flooding develop.
