Commuters in Southern Nevada can expect smoother travel along I-15 South. The Nevada Department of Transportation has announced the substantial completion of the I-15 South Widening Project. The $71 million project, which spans from Sloan Road to Warm Springs Road, was designed to address high traffic volumes in the south valley and freight corridors. Construction began in January 2024 and concluded this month.

The project concluded on schedule, with NDOT Deputy Director Mario Gomez, Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, and Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony in attendance. The widening added lanes along I-15 South, expanding from six to eight general-purpose lanes between Sloan Road and St. Rose Parkway, and increasing to 11 lanes from St. Rose Parkway to Blue Diamond Road.

In addition to the lane expansions, the I-15 South Widening Project features new striping between St. Rose Parkway and Blue Diamond Road, bridge resurfacing, and pavement preservation at the Blue Diamond interchange. The project also includes the construction of six new sound walls to help reduce traffic noise for nearby residents.

The project, carried out by Fisher Sand & Gravel, was funded primarily through federal contributions, covering approximately 95% of the total cost. The effort involved collaboration between NDOT, local agencies, and business partners. Strong fiscal management allowed the project to be completed under budget.

Looking ahead, drivers can expect reduced congestion along this key corridor for commuters and freight traffic. NDOT officials anticipate that the project will improve travel efficiency in Southern Nevada.
