Attention St. Augustinians: the Community Recycling Event will return after the holiday season. The City of St. Augustine is partnering with St. Johns County Utilities to provide residents an opportunity to recycle at the start of the new year.

In a social media post, the city shared the event details. On January 7, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., residents can bring recyclable materials to 25 W. Castillo Drive at Francis Field. An additional drop-off location for used cooking oil will be available at 840 West 16th Street, behind the SJC Parks & Recreation Office on Anastasia Island. Certain items, including televisions, hazardous waste, motor oil, and paper for shredding, will not be accepted.

The event will accept a variety of items. Old or broken electronics—including cell phones, tablets, PCs, hard drives, printers, scanners, digital cameras, stereos, and other small electronics—can be properly disposed of. Batteries and holiday light strands are also accepted, with the latter providing a post-holiday disposal option. These light strands should not be placed in regular household recycling bins.

For residents wondering about Christmas tree disposal, the city has provided guidance. Beginning January 7, 2026, unadorned holiday trees can be placed curbside for collection with regular yard waste, allowing the trees to be mulched instead of sent to landfills. The City of St. Augustine also reminded the public that light strands should not be placed in household recycling bins.

For questions or more information on acceptable materials, contact Solid Waste at 904.825.1049 or via email at [email protected]. The complete list of accepted and prohibited items, along with the official event flyer, is available on the city’s recycling event website.
