Kicking off the new year with an eco-conscious start, St. Augustine residents are invited to participate in the Sustainable St. Augustine Recycling Event. Scheduled for the first week of 2026, locals can responsibly dispose of items that are typically not accepted in the regular curbside bins or safe to send down the drain.

Hosted by the City of St. Augustine - Government and St. Johns County Utilities, the event is slated for January 7, from the early hours of 7:30 am until the afternoon at 2:30 pm, according to a social media post from St. Johns County. Located primarily at Francis Field, 25 W. Castillo Drive, with an additional site on Anastasia Island for cooking oil, city dwellers can bring a variety of items including used cooking oils, holiday light strands, all manner of batteries, and various electronic devices.

Those looking to get rid of their outdated or broken tech like laptops, cell phones, and tablets can find new homes for these items at this event. Chargers, printers, and other electronics are welcomed, though organizers have specified an unequivocal 'no' to TVs, motor oil, and any hazardous waste.

Furthermore, an additional point for the collection of used cooking oil has been established behind the Parks and Recreation Office, located at 840 West 16th Street on Anastasia Island - intentionally making the act of recycling more convenient and accessible. Participants are encouraged to reach out to [email protected] or [email protected] should they have any questions regarding the event. The City of St. Augustine emphasizes, "Small actions make a big difference," urging the community to do their part in recycling responsibly.
