A routine traffic stop on Interstate 95 turned into a significant drug bust earlier this month, netting over 12 pounds of cocaine. According to a social media post from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, deputies stopped a car on December 3 for speeding and following too close. The traffic infraction quickly escalated when deputies decided to conduct a search of the vehicle, unveiling a hidden stash of drugs in the trunk.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Shevron Forbes, was arrested after the discovery. Forbes is now facing several charges, including operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, trafficking in cocaine, and owning or renting a structure or vehicle for drug trafficking purposes. The sheriff's office detailed the incident in a post, which specified that the seized cocaine weighed in at 12.35 pounds.
Forbes was booked into the county jail subsequent to the arrest. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office has not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the vehicle search or whether Forbes had previous run-ins with the law. The extent of the drug trafficking operation in question remains under investigation.
Forbes will likely face a court process where the charges will be addressed, and this particular stretch of I-95 has once again been spotlighted for its role in the larger context of drug transportation routes.
