
Tragedy struck Friars Point, Mississippi, on the eve of holiday celebrations when a woman fell victim to a fatal stabbing incident that led law enforcement on a brief manhunt right before Christmas. According to Action News 5, a 73-year-old man, William Henry Chatman, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the murder of Bobby Jean Brown on Tuesday.
The solemn news arrived as the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office disclosed details of their Christmas Eve investigation, where deputies were dispatched to the LaPaula Villa Apartments following a distressing report of a stabbing, and upon their arrival, they found Brown with a life-threatening stab wound; it was there Chatman had allegedly fled before law enforcement could apprehend him, yet later, a family member turned Chatman into the Coahoma County Sheriff's Office. Brown later died at Regional One Hospital in Memphis, succumbing to her injuries shortly after arrival.
In their response, deputies were recorded to have administered life-saving measures to the victim until Pafford Medical personnel could take over, with the sheriff’s office immediately setting up a perimeter in the area to locate Chatman. As per the WREG report, the victim, named Bobby Jean Hinton-Brown, was identified as suffering from a stab wound to the chest, her condition so dire that she required immediate airlift to a Memphis hospital.
In the aftermath, the sheriff's office thanked the local community for its support and assistance during the criminal investigation, Chatman, the suspect believed to be responsible for the tragic event, was apprehended and taken into custody, after being turned in by a relative, his identity was confirmed as the alleged perpetrator who fled on foot from the scene of the crime, this according to an official Facebook post by the Coahoma County Sheriff's Office. Currently, William Henry Chatman remains behind bars with no bond.
