Authorities are on the lookout for a suspect involved in a violent altercation that ended in a stabbing on a Queens train early last Saturday morning. The NYPD Crimestoppers released a statement, which can be found on their Facebook page, detailing the events that transpired on the southbound "R" train at approximately 2:07 AM on Saturday. A 40-year-old man was engaged in a verbal dispute with an unidentified individual that quickly escalated, resulting in the victim being stabbed multiple times in the torso and left leg.
According to a report by AM New York, the victim managed to exit the train at the Steinway Street station in Queens, where he was found by the officers from the 114th Precinct and Transit District 20. Badly hurt, he was taken by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst and is currently in stable condition. The suspect, who remained at large, was last seen on surveillance footage wearing a beige jacket, a blue shirt, black pants, and black sneakers.
Motives behind the argument that led to the stabbing are still unclear. Investigators are urging the public to come forward with any relevant information. Individuals with tips can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, or submit their information online at the Crime Stoppers website or via X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) @NYPDTips. Authorities assure that all communications are kept confidential.
Despite this assault and a previous incident involving a man being slashed on a Manhattan-bound A train, Gov. Kathy Hochul and NYPD officials stand by their announcement of subway crime being at its lowest in 16 years. However, recognizing the gravity of these occurrences, the governor has pledged an additional $77 million to ensure continued police presence on subway cars through the next year.
