Tacoma’s City Council approved the Community and Economic Development Strategic Plan with Resolution 41823 on Tuesday, aiming for a data-driven approach that clarifies the City’s role in economic growth. Mayor Victoria Woodards said, "This strategic plan reflects a more focused, data-driven approach to economic development that is clear about what the City can directly do," according to the City of Tacoma.
Deputy Mayor Kiara Daniels said, "Developing the Community and Economic Development Strategic Plan has been a true labor of love and a deeply collaborative effort," while noting the plan’s support for small businesses and living-wage jobs. At-Large Council Member Olgy Diaz added, "I am excited by its emphasis on supporting local businesses and creating neighborhood-focused spaces that help people connect and engage," pointing to its community-centered approach, as reported by the City of Tacoma.
Tacoma has a plan to address challenges in office and commercial real estate by connecting property owners with resources for adaptive reuse and focusing on clear goals and transparency. The plan supports housing, arts, culture, and ecological economy efforts. A Community and Economic Development Action Plan, expected in early 2026, will focus on housing and commercial development, job creation, community engagement, and integrating culture and arts into public spaces. The city will provide quarterly reports on its actions, local trends, and outcomes it influences. The full plan will be posted at tacoma.gov/ced, as stated by the City of Tacoma.
