TSA expects an estimated 44.3 million travelers to pass through airport security from December 19 through January 4, QC News reports. This would exceed last year’s figures, setting a record for holiday travel.

Sunday is expected to be the busiest day, with about 2.86 million travelers, potentially setting a new daily record. “TSA expects 2025 to be another record setter following major improvements this year to make airport security more seamless and secure,” said TSA Senior Official Adam Stahl, Travel and Tour World reports. This follows a year of implementing new technologies and processes to improve security screening.

TSA has implemented several changes to streamline airport security. The shoes-off requirement at checkpoints has been eliminated. REAL ID enforcement began on May 7, and starting February 2026, travelers without acceptable ID can use TSA ConfirmID for $45. Expedited lanes for the military, extended TSA PreCheck for families, and discounts for military spouses have also been introduced, Travel and Tour World reports.

Secretary Noem's "Families on the Fly" campaign and dedicated family lanes at select airports showcase family-focused improvements this year. TSA provides a guide with tips for travelers with young children. "There have also been changes to strengthen the agency's identity verification processes," Simple Flying reports.

The TSA will face higher holiday travel volumes while maintaining security, but travelers may notice improvements thanks to the agency’s focus on technology and passenger experience.
