Tulsa residents looking for ways to stay active and engaged during the winter season won't need to look any further than the local park system. According to a City of Tulsa press release, Tulsa Parks is rolling out a variety of day camps, activities, and events throughout the winter months, meant to bring joy and festivity to the community.
There’s something for nearly every age group, with the Winter Break Day Camp for children aged 6-12 running from December 29 to January 2 at Whiteside Park Community Center. Additionally, holiday season charitable efforts include a Toy Drive for St. Francis Children’s Hospital, where new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Whiteside Community Center through December 19. Alongside, another Toy Drive is underway, this time benefiting the non-profit family assistance program, Fostering Joy, and gifts can be left at Hicks Community Center until Saturday, December 6.
For those looking to combine education with leisure, the Oxley Nature Center offers Winter Discovery Walks for all ages and a Full Cold Moon Walk that promises to be a unique nighttime experience. Aspiring crafters have the opportunity to make holiday wreaths at Whiteside Community Center or children's tree ornaments at Owen Community Center. According to the City of Tulsa website, these classes are available in December and require pre-registration.
Athletic residents can get into the competitive spirit with the Holiday Classic Adult Pickleball Tournament or opt for a festive run with the Eggnog Pajama Jog Fun Run, paralleling the Tulsa Christmas Parade route. The full roster of events doesn't forget the younger ones either, with two separate Candy Cane Hunts scheduled in December. Moreover, the Winter Solstice Walk at the Oxley Nature Center invites participants to reflect on the change of seasons on December 21, the longest night of the year. Registration details and fees for all activities can be found at TulsaParks.RecDesk.com, as per the City of Tulsa website.
