Tulsa Parks is set to warmly open its doors to the public with two Free Community Days during the winter break, a move to encourage residents to actively enjoy their leisure time in a spirit of togetherness. On Friday, December 26, and Friday, January 2, select recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering free access to a range of activities like fitness, gym sports, and crafts. The initiative requires no registration or membership, easing the way for families and individuals to spontaneously join in the fun, as reported by the City of Tulsa.
According to a release from the City of Tulsa, community members will have the opportunity to quickly engage in various activities, from intermediate level pickleball sessions to basketball games and winter crafts. Fitness enthusiasts can also freely use gym facilities, with those under 16 requiring an accompanying adult. Tulsa Parks Director Anna America expressed the sentiment behind this offering, stating, "These free days are an open invitation for families, neighbors, and friends to explore everything Tulsa Parks has to offer."
The free days are designed to cater to a diverse range of interests. For instance, at the Reed Community Center, activities include Holiday Hoops Open Basketball and a fitness room available throughout the day, while Lacy Park Community Center offers open gyms and pickleball sessions. The Jane A. Malone Center maintains open access to its gym and fitness center all day. Such programming highlights the commitment to provide activities that fit a range of ages and physical abilities, ensuring everyone has something to look forward to, as detailed by the City of Tulsa.
Looking forward to January 2, other recreation centers such as Hicks Community Center and Owen Park Community Center are set to throw open their doors, with family-oriented events like a Family Nerf Wars and a watercolor craft project designed to bring relatives closer during the holidays. America emphasized the goal of these days, as she told the City of Tulsa, "Winter break is the perfect time to try a new class, enjoy our gyms, and experience the sense of community our centers provide." The full schedule, accessible through the City of Tulsa's press room, details the activities at each center, inviting citizens to kick-start the new year with a blend of physical activity and creative pursuits.
