The city's arteries will feel the pinch of maintenance and construction this week, as several key Tulsa traffic routes face temporary closings and lane reductions. Daily commuters take note: disruptions are on the horizon, as per the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Weather permitting, westbound I-44 will undergo intermittent lane closures at Peoria Ave. this Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., due to bridge work, according to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. To add, the eastbound I-44 off-ramp to 11th St. will be closed for a similar period for safety device repairs.
Drivers using northbound US-75 to access eastbound I-244 will need to adjust their routes, as the corresponding ramp will be out of commission from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Motorists will also need to navigate around a lane closure on westbound I-44 at the I-44/I-244 Western Split slated for the hours between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for guardrail repairs, as reported by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
The I-44/US-75 interchange project will continue until summer 2028 and is causing several traffic changes. The eastbound and westbound ramps to northbound US-75 are closed, so drivers must detour using eastbound I-244. Southbound US-75 drivers trying to reach I-44 also need to use westbound I-244, as noted by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Over in Catoosa, the I-44, SH-66 interchange improvement is setting the stage for a series of lane closures through 2026. These notwithstanding the narrowed lanes at the interchange itself, have spurred detours and created a constrained merge area for the southbound SH-66 ramp.
US-75 between 56th St. N. and 66th St. N. is down to one lane in each direction until summer 2026 for bridge repairs, which may cause slowdowns. In addition, the SH-97 pavement project will continue to bring occasional lane closures through January 2026, as per the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
