Following a shooting in North Knoxville, two suspects — Jamarcus Murphy, 20, and Jamahus Murphy, 18 — have been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Knoxville police responded around 4:45 p.m. Friday to W. Oldham Avenue and Worth Street after reports of gunfire. Officers found a vehicle down an embankment with two women inside; one had gunshot wounds, and the other was unresponsive.

The woman found unresponsive at the crash site later died. According to Knoxville police, forensic officials determined she died from blunt force trauma caused by the crash. Additional charges are pending against the Murphy brothers in connection with her death. The second woman, who suffered gunshot wounds, remains hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police identified the shooting location near Worth Street and W. Emerald Avenue. Surveillance video showed the suspects leaving in a black Honda Accord. Later that evening, members of the Community Engagement Response Team and Violent Crimes Unit detectives arrested the suspects at a Kroger on Clinton Highway, according to the Knoxville Police Department report.

After the Murphys were taken into custody and interviewed, detectives filed charges against them. Jamahus also faces a charge of using a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony. The motive for the shooting is still unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police say additional details will be released as the case develops.
