Chaos struck an Allegheny County community yesterday afternoon when a vehicle careened into a fire station, and another smashed into a utility pole nearby. According to WPXI, the Harrison Hills Volunteer Fire Company reported the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Freeport Road and Altermoor Drive in Harrison Township.

Emergency response was quick; an off-duty firefighter from Freeport Fire-EMS acted rapidly to put out the fire that had erupted in one of the crashed vehicles, driven by a man who was trying to merge onto Freeport Road from Altermoor Drive. At the same time, first responders worked to rescue the individual from the second vehicle, which had unfortunately met with a telephone pole just outside the station. "Multiple calls had come in about a vehicle that had crashed into Harrison Hills Fire Station 169 and possibly caught fire," as reported by WPXI.

Meanwhile, TribLIVE reported that the collision at 5300 Freeport Road involved distinct trajectories for the two vehicles. The car went head-on into a utility pole outside the fire hall, and the pickup truck crashed into one of the fire hall’s garage doors before catching fire. The driver of the car was conveyed to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, their injuries not thought to be severe. The condition of the pickup driver was not immediately known, and Harrison Hills has not yet commented on the extent of the damage to their facility.

As the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, the Harrison Township police are piecing together the actions that led up to the collision.
