As the season of giving takes hold, the Santa Cops program in Westminster is making its final call for donations this year. With a deadline fast approaching on Monday, Dec. 8, the community is urged to come forward with new, unwrapped toys, clothes, and shoes to spread cheer among children in need. Westminster PD shared via a social media post, "It's about that time! The last day to drop off donations for this year's Santa Cops program is Monday, Dec. 8." The program successfully supported over 200 children last year and aims to do the same this year with the help of generous residents.
For those who wish to contribute, the main drop-off location is the Westminster Public Safety Center located at 9110 Yates St. Along with toys and clothing, the program also welcomes wrapping paper, gift tags or labels, and tape to ensure presents are prepped for delivery, though they note, gift bags are not accepted because "each gift is individually wrapped for easy delivery." Unsung heroes of the yuletide effort are the officers, Victim Services Unit, School Resource Officers, and school staff who have nominated the families poised to receive these tokens of community kindness.
In addition to tangible items, monetary donations are welcome through the Westminster Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. As a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit, contributions to the program can be made via Venmo at venmo.com/u/WCPAAA. Donors are reminded to include "Santa Cops" along with their email in the memo line to aid in the tracking of contributions. This move not only simplifies the financial side of the endeavor but also retains transparency for those opening their wallets in support.
