
The White Settlement Community Services has kicked off its Holiday Grease Roundup campaign, an initiative aimed at preventing sewer line damage by encouraging proper grease disposal. In an effort to keep local plumbing infrastructure in peak condition during a season known for its hearty cooking and festive meals, they've shared several tips for residents on social media. The public service campaign, which began recently, will run through January 16, as per the White Settlement Community Services.
White Settlement Community Services advises against disposing of cooking oil, greasy foods, dairy products, or salad dressings down the drain to avoid clogging and potential pipe damage, using strainers to catch solids is also recommended for they can significantly reduce the risk of blockages residents can take these simple steps to make a notable difference in maintaining the sewer system, according to the social media post. They further suggest that rather than rinsing grease with hot water, which can solidify in pipes, it's better to let it cool and then dispose of it in a sealed container at the designated 8212 Albert Street collection point.
As simple measures can go a long way, the organization also recommends wiping or scraping food particles from pots, pans, and dishes into trash bins prior to washing and suggests utilizing dry paper towels to remove excess fats before disposing of them in the garbage. These details, provided in the social media outreach, emphasize user-friendly practices for the community to adopt. Effective waste management during the holiday season is critical, as gatherings tend to increase both water usage and waste disposal.
