Residents of Wilson County’s Southwest Water District should brace for some inconveniences between December 15 and 20, as the Rock Ridge Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting fire hydrant testing. While necessary for ensuring public safety, this testing could lead to reduced water pressure and discolored drinking water, which, while not harmful, isn't exactly enticing, especially if you're about to do a load of whites.
Wilson County officials say the water is safe to drink, even if it looks rusty or tastes off. The fire department warns it may stain clothes. To clear the discoloration, run cold water for about 15 minutes before using it.
If your water flow is very low or remains rusty for more than 12 hours, call the emergency hotline at 252-265-8017. Be sure to provide your address and contact information.
