
The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a wind advisory for the region, cautioning that from noon Sunday to midnight CST Sunday night, residents should brace for strong westerly winds, which could reach up to 45 mph gusts and cause potential disruptions.
Areas anticipated to feel the brunt of the gusty conditions include portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee; the advisory warns of unsecured objects being tossed about and the possibility of tree limbs coming down, with the chance that a few power outages may result, the expected impacts are said to include difficulty driving, especially for high-profile vehicles and the advice is to exercise extra caution on the roads during this time, "Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," the advisory states.
As the blustery conditions swoop in, the weather shift will be notable; Sunday night forecasts predict a steep drop in temperatures with lows around 30 degrees and showers mainly before 9 pm with an 80% chance of precipitation - new precipitation amounts could range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, high winds will persist through the evening with the transition from southwest to northwest winds, and these are due to continue blowing strongly into Monday.
The rest of the week post-advisory looks to bring calmer skies, temperatures are set to remain on the cooler side with highs near 36 on Monday, steadily climbing to the mid-50s by Friday, and sunny to mostly clear conditions anticipated, providing respite after the eventful Sunday winds, following the windy conditions of Sunday a more tranquil atmosphere is forecasted with the upcoming days leading into the New Year characterized by clearer skies and a gentle uptick in temperature, heralding a peaceful commencement to 2026.
