A 35-year-old woman, identified as Christina Miranda, died following an officer-involved shooting in North Philadelphia yesterday morning, according to police reports. The incident, as 6abc highlights, occurred just before 4:15 a.m. at the 900 block of Erie Avenue after officers responded to a call regarding a person with a gun.

Arriving at the scene, officers from the Philadelphia Police Department encountered Miranda holding a firearm to her head. As reported by NBC Philadelphia, police stated that Miranda ignored commands to drop the weapon. An attempt to use a Taser on her was made, which was ineffective. Following the Taser's deployment Miranda fled across Erie Avenue, and she is alleged having pointed the firearm at police, which prompted the officers to discharge their weapons.

Two officers involved in the shooting—a 36-year-old man with 17 years of experience and a 25-year-old man who has served for two years, both assigned to the 25th police district—fired multiple times at Miranda striking her, as described by authorities. FOX 29 reported that Miranda was then transported to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m.

The handgun recovered at the scene had its serial number removed. Following the shooting, as is the departmental policy, the officers involved were placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation, which is under review by the PPD's Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Unit, PPD's Internal Affairs Bureau, and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. Currently, no officers or other civilians have been reported as injured during the incident.
