Yolo County officials are warning residents about the risks of buying food from unpermitted vendors, which can increase the chance of foodborne illnesses. The Environmental Health Division advises sticking to businesses that have passed inspections and display the proper permits, according to the Yolo County.
Permitted food facilities often show color-coded placards at their entrance, and food trucks or carts should have a visible permit sticker. Without these signs, customers may be risking unsafe food, as reported by the Yolo County.
Yolo County does not allow unpermitted food operations, such as temporary stands or pop-up tables, because they may lack proper sanitation, handwashing, and restroom facilities. These operations can also create unfair competition for licensed vendors. Violations can result in fines or prosecution. Home cooks must have a permit to sell food.
