Heads up, Vinton residents and commuters, the Texas Department of Transportation is rolling out its roadwork schedule, and it’s exactly as much of a headache as you'd expect. If you plan to use I-10 between Vinton and Mesa anytime from Saturday, January 10, to Saturday, January 17, patience will be required. Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, there will be alternating lane closures on both north- and southbound Desert areas, as crews work on electrical issues, and do "miscellaneous construction work."
The same stretch of highway will also see closures for east- and westbound lanes within the same dates and times. According to a social media post from the Village of Vinton, TxDOT crews will be busy sweeping, striping, power washing, and painting barriers. Traffic will, of course, be directed to alternate routes where necessary, but let's be honest, it's going to be a bit chaotic out there. Plan accordingly.
That’s not the end of it, though. Come Saturday, January 24, I-10 eastbound from Redd to Mesa will completely shut down for a full 24-hour period, starting at 5 a.m. and ending at 5 a.m. the following day. And yes, you read that right, 24 hours of no eastbound I-10 traffic in that section. The reason? Crews will be removing barriers and working on the new Mesa off-ramp, also known as Ramp 9, which, afterwards, should include three freshly-paved lanes from Redd to Mesa. The detour will route vehicles to take Exit Redd, followed by South Desert back to I-10 at the Mesa ramp.
