Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is spicing up its destination portfolio with a new seasonal nonstop service to Grand Cayman, courtesy of Cayman Airways. This splash into Caribbean skies marks Austin’s only direct conduit to the island's pristine waters and diving spots that delineate a diver's paradise. The service, which commences on May 24, is scheduled to run through August 9, according to the City of Austin announcement.
"Austin’s connection to the world just got a little brighter with the arrival of Cayman Airways,” stated AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi. She went on with passengers in mind, citing their desire for "more diverse international travel options and easier access to top leisure destinations" as the driving force behind the new addition. "This partnership not only strengthens our airport’s portfolio but offers Austin and Central Texas a direct, convenient gateway to one of the Caribbean’s most spectacular and beautiful destinations," she added in a statement obtained by Austin's official website.
The nonstop service, slated to whisk travelers on a weekly basis each Sunday, is being offered using Cayman Airways’ Boeing 737-8. The aircraft, equipped with 160 seats and a Business Class Cabin, seems all set to serve up a slice of luxury midair. Flyers can look forward to free Seven Fathoms Rum Punch—assuming they've seen 18 summers—, a complimentary meal, and free streaming in-flight entertainment. What's more, passengers can tote along both a carry-on bag and a personal item sans charge, details which were outlined in the airport's release.
"We’re delighted to partner with AUS to introduce new nonstop jet service between Austin and the Cayman Islands this summer," executive Vice President for Commercial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer for Cayman Airways, Paul Tibbetts, expressed in an interview as per the Austin website. The flight provision affords passengers the luxury of cutting out connections and grappling with excruciating travel days, trading those for the definitions of convenience and comfort. Revelations about the award-winning customer service of Cayman Airways, alongside the island's lauded white sands and culinary prowess, anticipate a luxe escape that awaits every class of adventurer, the airport's statement iterated.
In what's interpreted as a response to one of the United States' swiftest-growing regions, AUS continues to assert its global footprint with this significant international expansion. Travelers now have a fresh opportunity to embrace the diverse experiences of Grand Cayman, starting with a convenient flight that departs from Austin at 12:45 p.m. and lands them amidst the archipelago's allure by 3:45 p.m. Conversely, the return flight takes off from Grand Cayman at 8:15 a.m., ensuring arrivals in Austin at a sensible 11:15 a.m., all in under three hours of flight time—as outlined by the City of Austin.
