Baltimore police are conducting investigations into the city's first homicide of the year, which unfolded on the early evening of January 3. According to FOX Baltimore, Southeast District officers arrived at the 700 block of N. Patterson Park Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. following a report of a shooting in the Middle East neighborhood.
A 55-year-old man was discovered by the responding officers, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite providing aid to the victim and quick transportation to a local hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The details surrounding the shooting were not immediately available, with the police urging witnesses with information to come forward and contact the homicide detectives.
The same incident was reported by WBAL-TV, noting that homicide detectives are now on the scene of the shooting in McElderry Park. The victim, once found with injuries, was declared deceased after the efforts to save him at the area hospital were unsuccessful.
Investigators are pressing the public for assistance and are asking anyone with potentially crucial information about the case to step forward. Calls to the Baltimore police may be directed to their homicide detectives at 410-396-2100. While grieving the tragedy that has struck, a similar sense of urgency reverberated in the calls issued by the detectives looking to solve the city's first homicide of the year.
