Baltimore's Sinai Hospital celebrated the arrival of two of the area's first newborns of 2026 with a baby boy greeting the new year at 12:35 a.m., followed by the birth of a baby girl named Sage Marie, weighing 5 pounds, 13 ounces at 12:52 a.m. The hospital confirmed the timings and the weights of the newborns, marking the onset of new beginnings for the families involved.
The boy, whose name has not been released, made his debut into the world as the hospital's first baby of the year. Nearly 20 minutes later, according to a WBAL-TV report, Sage made her appearance as the first baby girl of the year at Sinai. Expectations for this New Year’s Day delivery were confirmed by Sage's mother, Shellby Hudson, although the exact timing came as a surprise to her. "She's already sassy," Hudson said, adding, "She be rolling her eyes, and stuff. My baby is going to be blessed," as CBS News Baltimore detailed.
It remains unclear whether there were any other babies born earlier on New Year's Day than the two at Sinai Hospital.
