Forest landowners seeking guidance on managing their woodlands can attend one of three Forest Owner Winter School events hosted by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Washington State University Extension. These sessions will provide practical advice on forest stewardship, including wildfire preparation, recovery, and forest health management, according to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
Attendees will also learn about financial and technical assistance programs, wildlife habitat improvement, and strategies to address issues like root diseases and bark beetles. Each day-long event includes multiple 50-minute learning sessions and features exhibitors and vendors offering forest-related products and services, as reported by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
The Winter School series for forest owners will be held at three locations. The first event is at Spokane Community College in Colville on February 7 at 9 a.m.; advance registration costs $30 per person or $40 per family, increasing by $10 at the door, and includes a box lunch. The second event is at Green River College in Auburn on February 21 at 8 a.m.; advance registration by 5 p.m. on February 19 costs $25 per person or $40 per couple, and attendees under 18 can attend free. The third event is at WSU Vancouver on March 21 at 8 a.m.; advance registration by 5 p.m. on March 19 costs the same as Auburn, and box lunches are available for $15 if pre-ordered, as stated by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
