Boston residents faced icy conditions this morning as freezing rain coated roads and sidewalks, particularly near and northwest of I-95. The National Weather Service warned that slippery surfaces may persist through the morning commute and urged caution.
Weather forecasts indicated a 50% chance of freezing rain before 1 p.m., with patchy fog lifting by afternoon and returning in the evening. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-30s, improving road conditions. "We will dry out this afternoon and as temps slowly rise into the mid 30s, the evening commute will be much better than this morning's commute," noted WHDH. A winter weather advisory remains in effect along the Boston to Providence corridor.
The latter half of the week appears to offer a brief respite from the inclement weather, with Thursday being described as the "pick of the week." According to the National Weather Service, Boston can expect sunny skies with a high near 43 degrees, accompanied by a mild west wind around 6 mph.
Rain returns late Friday and will continue on and off into the weekend. There is a 50% chance of rain Friday, with showers possible after 1 p.m., and another wave of precipitation Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. WHDH forecasts additional showers late Friday into Friday night. Sunday’s football game in Foxboro between the Patriots and Chargers is expected to occur under drier conditions.
