A hit-and-run incident in Las Vegas yesterday resulted in the death of a pedestrian and has led to an arrest. According to News3LV, the collision occurred around 1:03 a.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Russell Road. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported that a 43-year-old woman from Kansas, walking north in the far-left travel lane, was struck by a Cadillac SUV, which left the scene without providing identifying information.
The woman was transported to UMC, where she later died from her injuries. Her death was the first traffic fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2026. Investigators later identified 77-year-old Edward Dias of Pomona, California, as the driver of the Cadillac. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, according to an LVMPD statement.
No signs of impairment were reported, and Edward Dias cooperated with the investigation. He was booked on the applicable charges and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, January 2, according to court records cited by News3LV.
KTNV reported that the incident occurred near the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, with the pedestrian in the far-left northbound lane when a 2019 Cadillac XT5 struck them and fled. The LVMPD investigation later identified and located the vehicle and its occupants, including Edward Dias, who was taken into custody on charges related to the incident.
