Carmalitha Gumbs was sworn in as the first female mayor of South Fulton on Monday. Gumbs, a key figure in establishing South Fulton’s City Council, has assumed office following her predecessor’s spending controversies. She is expected to focus on city leadership and strategic growth, as reported by WSBTV.
Gumbs has stated that part of her focus is on encouraging young women to pursue political roles. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, she also intends to prioritize improvements to the city’s infrastructure and overall development.
Gumbs’ inauguration coincided with the swearing-in of three councilmembers: Aaron Johnson, who fills Gumbs’ former District 2 seat, and District 4’s Jaceey Sebastian and District 6’s Natasha Williams-Brown, who continue their terms. The new council aims to provide transparent and accountable representation to South Fulton’s roughly 110,000 residents.
