A Tuesday evening crash at one of Oakdale’s busiest intersections left a child airlifted to the hospital and a Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputy and another driver nursing minor injuries, authorities said. The collision happened at North Yosemite Avenue and East E Street, where a deputy’s patrol vehicle hit a car that was turning in front of it. Emergency crews flew the child from the scene, and officials described the child’s condition as stable. The deputy and the other driver were taken by ground ambulance with injuries described as minor, while Oakdale police took charge of the on-scene investigation.
According to CBS Sacramento, the deputy was traveling north on North Yosemite Avenue when the patrol vehicle struck a car that was turning from the southbound side of the roadway onto East E Street. CBS reported that a man and a child were inside the civilian vehicle at the time of impact.
Deputy Was Heading To A Call, Investigators Say
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office told KCRA the deputy was responding to a call for service when the crash occurred. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. KCRA reported the wreck happened around 5:45 p.m. and noted that Oakdale police are handling the on-scene investigation.
Crash Hot Spot With A Deadly History
This particular stretch of Yosemite Avenue has seen serious trouble before. Last May, the Oakdale Leader reported a fatal broadside motorcycle crash at the same intersection of North Yosemite and East E Street that shut down the roadway for hours. That earlier incident highlighted how quickly a routine traffic situation at the junction can turn into a major, multi-agency response.
Details Still Limited As Probe Continues
Officials have not said whether the deputy had lights or sirens activated at the time of the collision. No additional updates on the child’s condition have been released, as reported by CBS Sacramento, and Oakdale police continue to investigate what led up to the crash at the high-traffic intersection.
