The City Auditor's Office is back with a fresh look at our urban green spaces, releasing a report that delves into the intricacies of park management and planning within the city. If you're one of those who like to keep tabs on how the city's parks are planned, funded, and maintained, you might want to take a gander at this document.
The good news is, our city seems to know a thing or two about keeping things transparent when it comes to park planning. According to the City of Denton, although we're not meeting every goal of the Park Master Plan, we're holding our own compared to other cities. Now, for those who pay attention, the Parkland Dedication Ordinance is doing a decent job funneling funds into snagging and sprucing up new parkland. However, when it comes to fairness and proportionality, there's room for improvement, as always.
On the maintenance side, Parks & Recreation isn't looking too shabby with its comprehensive standards. But here's the catch - not all park assets are making it to the inventory list, and the work schedules seem a bit out of sync with those standards. The maintenance deeds are mostly accounted for, but the system could use a tech upgrade. A reimplementation of a work order system is supposed to turn the planning and monitoring department into a well-oiled machine.
