As temperatures in Northeast Ohio plummet, the City of Cleveland is stepping up efforts to keep residents warm, announcing the opening of warming centers. According to 19 News, snow is anticipated to begin this morning, with temperatures expected to fall into the single digits by Thursday.

Due to the severe cold, the city has made preparations, including the availability of four recreation centers operating as warming shelters over the next week. Dropping to the 20s, the WKYC Weather Team forecasts lake-effect snow, which will intensify by the  Wednesday evening commute, as detailed by WKYC.

The warming centers will be open at various hours today through January 20. Following the release from the City of Cleveland Division of Recreation via FOX 8, the Michael Zone Recreation Center, EJ Kovacic Recreation Center, Zelma George Recreation Center, and Collinwood Recreation Center are the locations designated to assist those seeking refuge from the cold.

In response to potentially needing overnight accommodations, the city has also arranged for the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) passes to be provided, offering transportation to nearby facilities that offer these critical services, "If visitors require overnight shelter, Regional Transit Authority (RTA) passes may be provided to facilitate transportation to an appropriate nearby facility offering these services," shared in a statement obtained by Cleveland 19. Residents across the region are urged to take advantage of these warming centers to ensure safety during these harsh winter conditions.
