Cobb County residents are being urged to stay informed about how their tax dollars may be allocated. The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program, which supports various initiatives to reduce poverty, has a funding shuffle on the horizon. The Cobb County CDBG Program Office is opening the floor for locals to chime in on an additional slice of funding, precisely $28,891.54, handed down by the Georgia Department of Human Services to the county. The extra funds bump the total grant for the 2026 program year to a sum of $492,743.54, demonstrating a tangible commitment to community assistance and development, as per the county's announcement.
A portion of these funds is up for reconsideration, too. There’s $12,500.00 that was previously earmarked for an organization that’s stepped back from its grant, leaving the dollars without a home for the time being. The public has a say on where this money might be best utilized, as the county is realigning these funds as part of the proposed CSBG funding recommendations for the coming year. Embrace this chance before the county solidifies plans on February 24, where these recommendations will be brought before the Board of Commissioners for an official thumbs up or down.
Those who want to share their views on the proposed financial reshuffling can attend a public review meeting scheduled for January 28 at 11 a.m. Officials are encouraging nonprofit leaders, social services advocates, and community members to participate, emphasizing that public input plays a key role in shaping local budget decisions.
Residents can submit their input on the proposal until February 16, either by attending the meeting in person or by contacting the Cobb County CDBG Program Office directly. The full announcement of this additional funding and the details for the public comment period can be found on the county's official website. For those unable to attend the review meeting, the Cobb County CDBG Program Office is reachable at (770) 528-1455 or through email at [email protected].
