Dallas Police and U.S. Marshals joined forces to take down a wanted fugitive, Velisa Purvis, in the heart of the city's Central Business District, as per the latest report released by the Dallas Police Department's online news blog. The 40-year-old suspect was facing a slew of felony narcotic charges before their encounter on Tuesday, which culminated in their arrest on Garrett Avenue. The Dallas Police Department details that Purvis was apprehended without incident, setting the stage for further investigation.
Authorities discovered a trove of drugs during their search, listing 39 small bags of what's suspected to be crack cocaine, two bags believed to contain methamphetamine, and an assortment of drug packaging materials, money, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia. Purvis's existing legal woes expanded with additional allegations of Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance in both the four-gram to 200-gram range and the one to four grams range for crack cocaine, methamphetamine, including the seized currency and packages intended for distribution.
The success of this operation has put a spotlight on interagency cooperation—a theme Major John Madison of the Central Business District Patrol Division echoed, saying, per the Dallas Police Department, "Our proactive police work is made better through our strong partnerships with agencies like the U.S. Marshals," attributing the success to collective commitment and shared objectives.
