DeKalb County will be observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, leading to a shake-up in the usual residential sanitation schedule. While there won't be any refuse collection services operating on the holiday itself, DeKalb officials have shared a revised plan to ensure all residents receive service throughout the week, as detailed by the county's release.
The county stated that, for those accustomed to Monday service, trash pickup will roll over to the following day on Tuesday, January 20. Following suit, customers scheduled for Tuesday collection should prepare for their waste to be collected on Wednesday, January 21, instead.
This temporal shift carries throughout the week, seeing Wednesday's normal pickups happening on Thursday, January 22, and Thursday's on Friday, January 23. To accommodate the holiday, the North Transfer Station has set its hours from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, offering a limited window for drop-offs, according to the county's website.
All other county sanitation facilities, including the Seminole Road Landfill and the Central Transfer Station, along with the administrative buildings, will close their doors in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, reopening during normal business hours on Tuesday. For residents unsure about the changes or seeking clarity, they can direct their queries to the Sanitation Division's Customer Care team at 404-294-2900 or email at [email protected].
